Lack of donations and subscribers make running the station an expensive undertaking without seeing any real return (unfortunately everything costs money).
The cost of finding new music to broadcast (not every track is donated, and in fact there are only a few), keeping up the V.I.P. status to maintain the station. and paying broadcasting fees have run the course, and although the station was created to hopefully provide some measure of stress free and enjoyable atmosphere for the listeners we only received one single donation in our three year running time.

So Adios. The platform at our radio host site has many soundtrack stations (the main genre that we are listed in), and we tend to share many of our dedicated listeners with some of the better stations.

Beginning in 2010 we began our donation drive, where listeners can use Paypal to send donations for the purpose of helping to support us (we are an independent station, much like PBS or Public Radio) so that we may keep our playlists fresh with new content for our listeners pleasure. It is now the middle of the year, and we only received $5.00 for the year.

Bad economy? Perhaps. But We have seen people donate to less entertaining venues even in bad times. After all, our donations start at only a dollar.

Night Vision Classical is one station that provides music to help broaden the mind, and relax, and soothe the weary soul. The modern classical pieces have been carefully selected to help introduce listeners to classical music in general (many of whom never listened to classical before), and many have stated a new found appreciation for the music. The combining of these pieces with selected film score and ambient new age music creates a sort of mixed bag of highly enjoyable music. Each film score (no raucous, action driven epic music here)and new age (no transcendental meditation stuff, but carefully selected pieces from select artists) lends beauty to the whole broadcast.

Searching for music for the broadcast is the hardest part. If we can no longer afford to shop for music, then we fail. And while the broadcast is still going on, we have to add tracks (to make up the time slot) that we are not too pleased with. Our original mission falls apart, our ranking drops, and our listeners fade. Ultimately, no more Night vision Classical.

On occasion we do happen upon artists who are happy to send their latest works to us. Pianist Stéphane Horeczko's CD, G. 1888 is one our personal favorites. Listen for his pieces in the broadcast.

Standout Tracks For Week Ending 4/2/10

Here are the standout tracks (five stars out of five) broadcast at Night Vision Classical as rated by our listeners.

Opening Sky
Steve Roach
Dynamic Stillness

Romeo and Juliet (arr. Congrats to Catya!

Been using the website Airplay Direct to find music for broadcast. One artist I downloaded a track by saved his music mp3 in a strange format. As a result, he did not get airplay. If any of the Airplay Direct users read this blog it is important that they ensure that their tracks are in the proper format, with the proper metadata (included in file). It makes my job so much easier, and I usually don't take time to fix these issues (in fact, I don't know of any broadcasters who do). Most of the artists we play have releases available at one of the major digital download sites (so I may supply the 'buy' option to our listeners), artist and album name, release year and label (so royalties can be paid to the artist's pro if applicable)

Andrew Pearce's 'Cinema Symphony' has made it's debut here at Night Vision Classical this month. I will stream a couple of selections from this wonderful piece of work from time to time.

The Ken Myers Project's new release 'Beyond' releases this month, and I will add a couple of tracks to the mix ahead of it's February 22nd release date.

Night Vision Classical is now ranked number 13 in the 'Soundtracks' genre, which is the highest it has ever been thus far in it's two year running. This is a good spot, as it is right up there with some of the best stations in this genre at Live365.

So long for now,

Ken
